Will my homeowners rates go up after a claim?
Technically, insurance companies are not allowed to single a homeowner out for a rate increase based on claims or claim history. However, your insurance policy most likely has a built-in discount or surcharge (typically 10% of your premium) that is affected by a claim. For example, you may receive a $100 discount for being “Claim Free,” and you would lose that discount if you file a claim.
